How do I know if I am eligible to participate?

Commercial or institutional buildings classified under the General Service 1 (GS1) or General Service 2 (GS2) Rate schedule as per NB Power’s Rate Schedules and Policies are eligible. Non-NB Power customers are also eligible to participate but must be in a similar rate schedule or customer class as listed above.

Agricultural buildings (registered farms), places of worship (churches, mosques & synagogues), and multi-unit residential buildings that have 3 or more units are also eligible to participate.

What is the difference between an energy audit and a feasibility study?

An energy audit is a road map for energy saving upgrades – it provides a building owner or manager with a comprehensive review of the building envelope, its systems and energy consumption. The audit report provides an overview of energy saving opportunities, payback and incentives available.

A feasibility study is a targeted review of a project’s components, including financial, technical, operational, timing, energy savings, payback and other impacts.

My energy audit/feasibility study has been done, what's next?

Now that you have had your facility's energy efficiency assessed by an Energy Management Service Provider (EMSP), you can sign and submit the Program Agreement provided in your welcome kit. Once you have received the audit report/study, choose the measure(s) you wish to implement and submit your completed Statement of Work for pre-approval.

I paid for my energy audit, when do I get my audit incentive payment?

After you have submitted the Program Agreement and your EMSP has submitted your audit report and proof of your payment, you will receive an initial rebate of 50% of your audit costs up to a maximum amount and be on your way to upgrading your building for improved energy efficiency and lower energy bills. You should receive your initial audit incentive within 60 days.

Once you have completed 1 or more energy efficiency measures as approved in your Statement of Work, you will be eligible for an additional audit incentive of 100% of the audit costs up to a maximum amount, inclusive of the initial audit incentive received. The remaining audit incentive will be paid out along with your implementation incentive once the Request for Payment has been processed. This process can take up to 90 days.

I paid for my feasibility study, when do I get my feasibility study incentive payment?

Once you have completed the energy efficiency measure as approved in your Statement of Work, you will be eligible for the feasibility study incentive of 100% of the study costs up to a maximum amount based on your buildings size. The feasibility study incentive will be paid out along with your implementation incentive once the Request for Payment has been processed, given the proof of payment for the study is submitted with your other invoices and receipts. This process can take up to 90 days.

When can I go ahead with construction?

Once NB Power has received your Statement of Work, you will receive notification of approval within 45 days. You have 18 months from the date you sign the Program Agreement to complete your projects.

I am a contractor and I am doing some of the recommended upgrades myself, can I still get an incentive for that?

Yes, you are eligible for incentives. Your invoices for materials purchased are required when you send in the Request for Payment.

How do I get my final payment for the implementation of energy efficiency measures and how long will it take?

Once the work is finished, submit the Request for Payment along with copies of invoices for all eligible costs within 90 days of project completion. After a technical review by NB Power, your incentive will be approved and sent for payment. This process can take up to 90 days.
